Photography School FAQ

Here are our most common pre-enrolment questions.

Our photography school is very straight forward. When you enroll in our school you will be directed to a download page where you can start downloading our digital course material. All instructions for completing the course are contained within the main student HUB which you will get access to after you enroll.

How much does the online photography course cost?
The course costs $175.

How long does it take to complete?
The course takes about two weeks but you can take as long as you like or go as quickly as you like!

What previous experience or education do I need?
There are no previous educational requirements.

How old do I need to be to enroll?
There are no age restrictions.

What if I am not located within North America. Can I still enroll?
Yes, you can enroll from anywhere in the world. We have students in over 30 countries!

What equipment do I need before enrolling?
All you need is a camera (digital or film will do), a computer, and an internet connection. Pretty simple!

When is the next start date?
There are no start dates in online photography school. When you enroll you can start right away.

Does it matter what type of camera I have?
It does not matter what type of camera you have when you start our course. We do usually recommend that you work towards getting a camera with as much manual control as possible. Specifically, you'll soon start to feel limited without aperture and shutter speed control. That being said, it's not mandatory. Many of our students use simple point and click cameras and focus more on the artistic elements of the craft. However, as stated above, you'll soon want more manual control of some of the technical elements of photography. The good news is that digital SLR's are dropping in price quickly. So while, you'll probably want to upgrade in the future, it's not necessary at this very moment.

Is the Icon Photography Schoool accredited?
To be a photographer doesn't require a degree. In fact, many of the best and most respected photographers got their training simply be completing their photography projects and learning as they went along. We cater to photographers looking to add artistic and technical value to their photographs without spending obscene amounts of money! Given that we are a non-accredited private learning environment. We choose this route to keep our course fees low and therefore make ourselves accessible to independent photographers who are interested in learning about the technical, artistic and theoretical elements of photography without going into huge debt to do so. As I'm sure you're aware, accredited schools charge tens of thousands of dollars for enrolment in their programs.

Our approach also makes learning accessible to people from around the world. You'll still be given one on one opportunities with a teacher and be asked to read lectures, complete assignments, take quizzes and be critiqued, but you're doing so for your own personal betterment as a photographer and not simply for a degree and for a very small fraction of the price you would normally pay.
