How to Take Great Nude Photographs
If you’ve ever wanted to take great nude photographs you’re at the right website to learn how to do so. This page will walk you through the basics of taking nude photographs.
Learning how to take nude photographs can be quite a daunting task. First you need to find a model that is comfortable enough posing nude, she must meet your artistic and aesthetic requirements and you both must feel comfortable with each other for optimal photographic outcomes.
Whether you’re working with male or female nude models you’ll want to work quickly to establish a friendly and relaxed working environment as well as create a harmonious personal relationship with them. There are always extra layers of complexity when you need to ask someone to take their clothes off. As a photographer you are in a slight position of power and the model is putting great trust in you to treat both them and their photographs with respect. For example, you and nude model will need to agree what types of publications that these photographs may end up on. You’ll want to discuss the ‘tone’ of the photos. For example, will they be erotic or will they be strongly tilted towards the artistic side of the spectrum exposing concepts such as form and shape, or skin texture.
These things should all be discussed first, so that both the photographer and the model have an understanding of expectations and desired results.
Once you get past building trust and respect for one another you’ll want to work on your photographs composition. Taking nude photographs follows the same rules of composition as other photographs. The main difference is your subject. So while you’ll want to incorporate lighting concepts and the rule of thirds for example, you’ll also be working with a new subject: A nude subject.
You may want to considering exploring this new subject in new ways. For example, why not look at how light touches the human skin? Alternatively, you can look at human form and ask the model to pose in unusual positions which create beautiful forms. Better yet, whey not capture them in staged settings doing the things they would normally do naked, such as get out of bed, look at themselves in the mirror and so on. Staged photography can be a great way to have full control over creating dramatic and exciting nude photography.
